The Ringer just went in-depth on the Pelicans, with TEN points of interest about the team. And who know who wasn't one of the ten? Who was barely even mentioned? Jonas Valanciunas! www.theringer.com/nba/2022/11/7/23443807/new-orleans-pelicans-zion-williamson-brandon-ingramYeah, Jonas. You know, the guy with the 23.5 PER ... by far the best on the Pelicans. The best Win Shares/48. Barely even mentioned. Eat donkey poop, Kevin O'Connor. Eat a big mouthful of donkey poop.

Players have reached the 30 points/game level 80 times in the history of the NBA.
There are SEVEN players averaging over 30 pts/game this season.
Would be pretty staggering if they made it to the end of seasons like this.

^^Yeah, the talent pool in the NBA is the best it's ever been, both in terms of depth and Star power. You could probably make a case for 6-7 different teams to be contenders to win the Finals this year.

Some notes looking at the season to date. Cavs started the year on a tear at 8-1 have seemingly come back to earth in the midst of a 5 game losing streak now. Didn't see that coming, I thought they were going to continue to fight for the 1st seed. Curry scores 50 on incredible efficiency against the Suns and there never was a point where it looked like they had a chance to win this game. I think the Warriors are in trouble now and am afraid that Klay might be done. They thought the youth were ready to play and let some of the experienced guys go like Otto and now they are showing they might not have been that ready. Celtics faced all these weird questions with their coach and inherited a coach too young and inexperienced for an NBA team AND lost their defensive anchor for a large chunk of the start of the season, and yet somehow they are still first in the NBA. I stupidly thought all of that meant they were going to struggle more early going and picked the under. Now I'm afraid for the league when they get Williams back....after i wrote all that i looked back at their schedule and it's pretty cake, playing the Nuggets and Grizz as their only real teams (they won both) while the Cavs twice (losing both). The rest includes teams like Bulls, Knicks, Pistons, Thunder, Hawks, Wizards, a bunch of meh at best. Still look very good though. Eastern conference was supposed to be the best conference this year but you look at the standings and 76ers, Heat, Bulls and Nets are all 9th-12th and nobody has really looked that impressive outside of the Celtics and Bucks. Blazers are actually first in the West! I'm not exactly a fan of the team but I do like seeing players be loyal to their team so it's nice to see Lillard get a little bit of a run here, not that I expect this to continue.

As I write this, LeBron James is 850 points behind Kareem Abdul-Jabbar for being the all-time points leader in NBA history (not including playoff games played, of course).
LeBron is scored 25.7 points/game this season. Therefore, LeBron should surpass Kareem in about 34 more games. That would be a home against against the Pelicans on Feb. 15.
More interesting, imho, would be the next game, against the Golden State Warriors on Feb. 23. Setting that mark versus Steph Curry would be pretty cool.
Now, LeBron is an old man and prone to injuries these days. So it's very possible that he doesn't hit the mark for a few more games. In which case, I would point out that the Raptors are heading to LA for a game versus the Lakers on March 10 (42 games from now). And part of my thinks it only fitting that the player who owned Toronto ("LeBronto") for so long should set the record versus us (not to mention the Lakers being the team that Kobe played for when he scored 81 on us). ... I'm just saying, it's not out of the realm of possibility.

Urp. I had hoped our days of being the team that other teams got records on was behind us...

Luka with 60 points, 21 rebounds and 10 assists — never been done before. Just incredible.
Also incredible: That we have so many players, like Luka and Jokic, who haven't made it to the finals yet or had really dominant teams. Are they going to keep getting better? Or is the NBA just too overloaded with great players nowadays?

That's pretty funny. I'm sure the effect they were going for is to say only 1 other person got it but really could have just put his name and then say no one else got it. I guess they just wanted LeBron and MJ names and that's it.

This one i like less because I think Stan is way off here. In the 90's they took it easy for the first 3 quarters and went hard for the 4th. They expect players to play hard all the time now and it is much more difficult on the body.

I understand there's much hesitation to give the MVP award to the same guy three years in a row, but I don't see anyone more worthy of it this season than Jokic.

Doncic is making a case just based on ridiculous lines. That said, Jokic is also a prime producer of silly looking boxscores, so yeah, there's that.

Just when things almost look normal and there's talk the Nets might be looking to even sign Irving long term he goes ahead and demands a trade or that he will now leave in free agency.
This is going to be an impossible trade to happen except for going to the Lakers who actually have mentioned they would do their firsts for him. But they can currently get him for free in the off season. Maybe 1 unprotected gets it done now because of the threat.

Kyrie traded to Mavericks. That didn't take long. Mavs quick to make the desperate move.

Nets FO was probably sick and tired of his shit.
For the Mavs, this is a high-risk, high-reward thing. So much so that it should've scared them away tbh. Kyrie could leave after this season for nothing (although, who tf would offer him the full 4 year max he wants?). Kyrie could kill his 4th locker room, upset over Luka stealing all the credit or something stupid. He could just flat out refuse to play, like a Pokemon refusing to take orders...except you have all the gym badges. Luka and him could just have poor chemistry together. AND THEN you actually look at his injury history.
Either they win a chip, or they greatly accelerate Luka leaving the team

So happy there wasn't any speculation about Kyrie joining the Raptors. Although I am now seeing some Durant rumors, which are also pretty annoying.

Does Irving ask for an extension from the Mavs now? Does he get refused and sit out or ask for another trade? How does Durant feel about this idiot bailing on a pretty good team to be in the exact same situation on another team? Hasn't Durant supported Irving's antics all along?
What a weird set of circumstances.
I wonder how Cuban plans to interact with Irving? Cause he's the only one who can make this work.

No extension, he said he wouldn't sign an extension with the Lakers (and they therefore wouldn't do their deal) for 1 main reason - he can only sign for 2 year extension and he wants 4. If Dallas isn't ready to offer 4/5 year max in the off season they are insane to make this trade because he is FOR SURE leaving to anyone who will (Lakers in off season). I like Cuban and Luka but these Mavs GM's have made continuously bad moves out of desperation. If they can't resign Kyrie now they have gutted their team once again for nothing and will then have cap space they've never been able to use well and no tradable picks unless they firm up conditional ones. This might be their last desperate move before they lose Luka from bad management.

So, LeBron is 38 points away from Kareem's record for most points ever scored in the NBA. Which is pretty awesome. A couple of caveats, though: • Kareem has 15,837 FGs. LeBron has 14,040 — still enough for 2nd all-time. But if we're comparing who put the ball in the basket most, I find it interesting. • Kareem also scored 2,323 points in college.
Anyhow, LeBron is awesome. Kareem is awesome. Basketball is lots of fun.

So it seems entirely plausible that LeBron passes him as well for most scored including college, 23ppg for 100 more games.

Yep. At the rate he's going, LeBron is going to beat Kareem on all the points metrics. Just going to take a bit longer for a couple of them.

When I reflect and think back, I was so young when Lebron entered the league and was hyped as the next one. Similar to Mcdavid in the NHL right now.
We're at the end of his career and when will "the next one" come?
God damn, life needs to slow down.

I'm his same birth year, so he is a mirror into what someone my age could be doing. He's doing slightly better than me. I remember him getting drafted and first time I ever thought that about anyone. Like oh fuck people my age are professionals now.
