Seems almost inevitably that Lowry and Norm are getting traded either today or tomorrow. Today's game could be their last in a Raptors uniform if they even get to play.

Is the team allowed to discuss future plans with their players? i.e. how much are you looking for in the offseason? Would you like to come back as a Raptor? Does the CBA limit these type of conversations?

I believe it does in specifics but is garbage in that you can thoroughly hint at it and be basically the same thing.

Why pay Duncan and trade Powell? Rather keep the organizational guy who knows the city and is comfortable here. The money isn't going to be that different.

Seems like a good question and might be why by all accounts the Raptors are going after Herro and the Heat are currently fighting against it. I do wonder if the idea is Duncan in the end from the Heat that the Raptors just say no and walk away. I guess on the side, they replace powell with moving lowry and then get some future assets from Powell. If they just move Powell then they have no Powell like player and potentially no Lowry next year. If they keep Lowry then they might not get the same future assets they want. I guess it's nice to have a 6'7" version of a 3pt threat to get their shot off, but will Nurse even play a deadly shooter if the defense isn't up to par which i don't think Duncan is. We got that guy already in Matt Thomas and he can't get off the bench.

That's another good question. Where does Duncan play? Our forward positions are locked up with Siakam and Anunoby. Trading our GOAT for a bench forward seems pretty pathetic. I want a center and picks, they can throw in Duncan after that.

Maybe Duncan and Precious would be enough then, getting a decent prospect as well would fit the bill I think.

The FO ain't scared. This is still the same dude at the top who orchestrated the Melo trade. They aren't infallible, but they swung for Giannis and missed. Time to take the first true steps of moving on, hopefully.

May as well pay Norm as Robinson. Saw a piece on the Raptors recently and they were talking elite shooters in the league. Since playoffs last year Norm apparently is in the top 5 shooters in the league. Lowry goes and they aren't overstocked at the guard position.

I think the Raps are stocked at the guard position. Anyone can make arguments against Thomas, Davis and Flynn, but they mostly haven't played and they don't have any kind of interior presence behind them. I think all three can contribute. The front court is where the Raps are thin. Anunoby and Siakam are forwards. Boucher should be used as a forward, and maybe an emergency centre. Thats it for three positions. Maybe Watson and Watanabe can contribute a bit but right now they are deep bench and developing. I'd argue that the roster needs 2 centres and a forward to balance out the roster. A guard does nothing for the Raps unless he is elite and better than Powell. Where are we going get that outside the draft?

Hard to let Norm go, and short term this might have a danger of helping us win too much right now? Added some depth which was hurting us before now.

Just read that Trent is a QO next season, and restricted the following. Nice on the cap for the Raps.
But just read in another article that Trent is restricted next season. huh?

It’s confusing but it’s basically both. We offer Trent a qualifying offer of roughly 2 mil based on his previous salary. If he chooses to accept the qualifying offer, he plays out that one year deal then becomes an unrestricted free agent. If he turns down the qualifying offer (far more likely), he becomes an RFA, and we have right to match offer sheets. Trent already turned down a 4 year/52 million extension offer from Portland. Or at least that was the max amount Portland was able to offer and he turned down an extension, article was unclear whether they offered him the full amount

I guess Thomas is a casualty of the Lowry trade that seems to be coming. Well see what ultimately happens with Lowry but I hope Thomas gets a shot in Utah, they could use a shooter and are prob less worried about Matt on defense with Rudy behind them. I always thought he was deserving a better shot.

So, just watched the Norm Powell last press conference from last night, hearing him talking having no interest in going anywhere else but Toronto and you have to think, we're let go now of 2 completely faithful players in Powell and Serge and I'm not sure we are making the right move. They don't want to pay him but they have the right mindset for bringing in youth behind them, the vets on the team are all about hard work, understand the grind. They should be fantastic vets for their team and it seems a shame that he is gone at this point. Gary Trent better not get a huge offer than he is useless.

Quick read from the Athletic on grading the trade. Gave Portland a B- and Toronto a A-. Basically says Portland needed defense more than offense and that's not what Norm is bringing. Says for Toronto Trent fits perfect for Nurse and Raps now have RFA with him to be able to control and not lose someone for nothing (although if they paid Norm it sounds like he was going nowhere else). Also said Hood non-guaranteed is a good trade chip for the off season as a cuttable trade chip and the team pays nothing. Sounds like smart management to a point, as long as Trent works out.

More room for the Lowry trade that must be worked out already and trying to figure out who they can move before they have to do cuts...

So did we get Talen or Herro included?
I really hope for Herro...especially just so Lowry can go to Miami and i can cheer for the Heat this year in the playoffs. I don't think i can cheer for the Lakers even with Lowry there.
