Raps apparently have signed Josh Jackson … and I’m thinking, “Why?” Oh, of course he’s 6’8”. But has he done anything useful in his career? A bit of a head-scratcher, tbh.

Need this season to actually come with something at this point. Training camp isn't far away now. Really want to see the improvement they are coming with, mainly Scottie but also Siakam, Precious and GTJ most specifically.

I'm curious to see if or when Mobley and Cade surpasse Scottie for best player of 2021 draft class.
Looking at the EC this should be a fun season, there's so many solid teams. Raps could legitimately miss the playoffs because the talent pool is so deep.

Random thinking about this year, with OKC losing Chet for the year it seems entirely possible that they try to throw away another season this year. At some point I would imagine that Shai finally asks out, and now that this is the first year of his max contract he is no longer a poison pill contract. If we assume he plays half the season and then gets traded, what would be the trade to get him here and would you do it? I assume NYK would be heavy in so the offer is going to need to be pretty large. GTJ, OG 3 UFRP and 2 pick swaps? Shai only makes 30mill so we could do the GTJ + Birch and other filler but i would imagine OKC wants good young players back as they are probably pretty close to trying to go for winning, I thought they were going to this year before Chet injury.
I would certainly feel more comfortable in throwing in further away picks for Shai to bring him home, i would imagine the dude would never want to leave and be the easiest resigning ever so there's less risk for the Raptors than any other team.
So disappointing to see the best Canadian player in the world is basically being ignored on a crap team and keeps getting shut down. Good news is if we do get him his mileage on the legs will be low.

The obvious problem is we'd be trading away two of our best three point shooters for a not so good one. A Siakam-Barnes-SGA trio seems pretty cool until you realize they shoot low 30% from behind the arc.
Not saying I wouldn't strongly consider it anyway, and just patch things up along the way, but it's something people overlook I think.
Apart from FVV (who might be on his way out too at that point), our next best shooters are Otto and Boucher.
We also get worse defensively without OG. The only way this works is if Nurse/Masai believe they can unleash SGA into a next level Star player. I personally have watched very little of SGA to have any kind of opinion on that.

That's interesting. ESPN must be expecting a regression for Siakam this season; he was All-NBA last year, which would put him in the top 15 plus a margin of error due to the positional requirements of All-NBA voting.
He is 28 and coming off what was probably the best season individual season of his career. If anything I would expect him to be just as good, or even a bit better, this year.

I had that same thought and looked at the players above him and they are: Ingram, DeRozan, Lavine, Jrue. I don't see how he is not better than all of these. Jrue is better defensively but clearly worse offensively, the other 3 i think Siakam is better on both sides, but even if we give them all credit for being slightly better offensively Siakam is way better than them defensively. So much of these reports are people stuck on opinions that it's harder to move around.
I also see that if Siakam got 15th best player last year, there is certainly room to be moved down from that based on players returning from injury. Kawhi is better, Lillard, PG.
The 11-25 just came out. Anthony Edwards at 25, no way. Siakam is better than Mitchell, Jaylen Brown, Bradley Beal is honestly a joke to be at 19. Gobert at 18 I'd debate but he is incredible on defense. Jimmy Butler at 17 when he literally just lost out to Siakam in All-NBA and is now another step further in age. James Harden got 11th and I question him entirely, but this is contract year James so MAYBE he comes out better than Siakam. Siakam realistically should probably be floating around 20.

Moving down the ranknings due to players returning doesn't necessarily meam regression of course...

Hard to believe it, but media day is here for a new season. Not long now until the first exhibition game ... and then the season.
Say, are we happy with the general discussion thread? Or should we start a new one for the new season?

Recently was asking for Precious to be moved to the starters, then before yesterday's game it comes out Nick told Precious that he wants to play him more but he needs to step up his defense while showing him where he can improve to get him to 25-30min a game...then Precious gets injured.
Comes out today now that he has partially torn ligaments in his foot and will be in a walking boot for 10 days before being reevaluated. Hopefully he's not out too long.

Even when he gets back it is going to be tough for him to move up the roster chain with Boucher, Porter, and Young ahead of him. What if Champagnie or Hernagomez start to get some minutes and perform well? The Raps have a LOT of forwards looking for court time. Im not saying his season is done but he may have to wait until next season to take a big step in minutes/productivity.

Boucher should be more locked into a spot but I'm not as sold on Porter and Young. He SHOULD be able to earn more minutes than them, especially if he does what Nick was asking him to do when he gets back.

Well it looks like the Gary Trent experiment will soon be over. He'll opt out of his contract this summer. No surprise, but he's having an awful season so far and its not usually a great idea to opt out coming off a bad year. That is unless you really want out. I'm disappointed because I like his shooting ability and it just means the Raptors take another step back in that area. You cant go into an offseason needing like 5 shooters. You'll never find enough. Plus we traded Powell to get Trent and in hindsight that appears to have been a poor decision. All in all the most disappointing thing about Trent is that he is always in and out of the lineup. He only averages about 65 games per season. Almost 20 games missed per season is too much for a young guy like him. If he could have stayed healthy and reliable I believe we would have appreciated him more and he wouldn't be on his way out.
