Didn't think that this deserved a thread of its own, but still a tad interesting.
Len gets waived. Missed last 3 games for health and safety protocols.
Hasn't done much, why waste his/the teams' time when there's other options on the horizon.

I was cautiously optimistic when we signed Len but he was pretty useless out there for us. Thank god we re-signed Boucher because a Baynes/Len rotation would give me flashbacks to the dark ages when our C rotation was Araujo and Aaron Williams.

I think that is highly interesting because it means they felt a need to create a roster spot. I think someone else is coming soon. Could be a free agent signing or maybe a trade.

Norm and McCaw (I hate losing NormGod in playoffs, but I don't have much hope we will keep him next year) for Jarrett Allen and Larry Nance Jr? Throw a 2nd rounder if needed? CLE bites?

Even more interesting on that front considering it seems like we will soon be able to have extra players anyways to combat all this COVID delayed games. I'm looking at the Cavs or Rockets here.

I think Cleveland's going to hold on to Nance because he's played well this year and has a super team-friendly contract the next two years after this one around 10 mil per season. Allen is also going to be under team control as an RFA this offseason. If they unload someone in their frontcourt I think they'd try to trade Love or Drummond first. My idea for a Drummond trade was pretty similar, Norm/McCaw/Baynes/Stanimal, but to include Baynes in a trade we'd have to wait a couple weeks until his contract is tradeable Feb. 5th.

Norm + Mccaw + whatever for Giannis
Wait...
Ok, so maybe a 2 for 3? 1 for 2 swap? Lowry and Norm seem to be the only two who would have enough trade value.

This would be pretty boring, but Raptors Rapture is saying Raptors might have waived Len because Yuta Watanabe is on a two-way contract right now which would limit how many games he can play with the team this season, and getting rid of Len opens up a spot to convert Yuta to a regular one-way contract.

Where's Bebe playing these days???

No disrespect to Yuta because I think he can play a bit but he's a long way from being a rotation player on a good team or even a middle of the pack team. The Raptors haven't given any indication they have changed gears to development.

Either that or Raptors advanced analytics department deciphered the Len Curse, and realized no team with Len on it has ever made the playoffs.

Not much on the bench though. Perhaps mix and match Davis and Thomas to keep some length in reserve. I totally agree with you on JV though. He brings a different look from Gasol in that he is more a traditional centre- key patrol, rebound, pass it out. The biggest concern IMO regarding JV is would he be quick enough to keep up? Could he acquire more Gasol like abilities to set up players as he matures?

The Ringer is reporting that the Raptors are interested in Andre Drummond, someone who has been rumoured multiple times to be a trade target for Webster/Masai. I think the most likely combo of players for salary purposes would have to include Powell/Baynes/McCaw/Stanley Johnson + potentially draft considerations or another young prospect. All of those guys are basically on expiring deals. Powell has a player option for 11 million next year but I'm assuming he'd opt out and maybe take mid-level with a contender, or if he does opt-in, then 11 million is pretty cheap for a guy with his skillset. Baynes has a team option for next season and the other two are expiring. It's just a question of whether Cleveland would want to have to deal with the headache of taking back 4 guys especially if McCaw and Johnson aren't interested in buyouts, would probably have to throw in a 2nd or multiple 2nds to make it worthwhile.

I'm still no high on Drummond, hard pass.
The other rumour floating around is that some of the brass are saying that it is time to move on from Lowry. Could we get some picks/prospects for Lowry's expiring contract, definitely, and it would help the team retool, but sentimentally i want Lowry to retire a Rap.
(But imagine if he was traded to the Clips. Unstoppable......)

Rumour has it that Lowry put his house up for sale? Hopefully just because of playing in Tampa/ covid shit and not a sign of things to come.

Not sure if it is his house, but i saw this posted and saw the supposed listing and the house is barren. Closest are basically completely empty and seems like a ghost house. I know in general something like this might be tried when selling a house to me it seems like, if this is his house, they are selling it because they have moved out since long ago and now they are not going back for almost another year at best and maybe never at worse. Plus the market in Canada is very hot right now, could just be thinking to sell high while it's empty and find something depending on the next move in his career even if that is Toronto. To add some flames to the 'Lowry house is for sale is he gone?' fire: bleacherreport.com/articles/2930345-kyle-lowry-and-the-toronto-raptors-need-a-divorcePersonally I still struggle with this one but I think I would lean more towards trading him away than keeping him and pushing for 5/6 place and losing in the first round. Especially this year considering most other teams are trying to go to the playoffs and the stars in the draft right now are potential franchise altering players. If you want to make a big move do what other teams aren't. Right now they are 2.5 games up on 13th and 2 games back of 3rd, so very much of everything is in play type scenario. They might not finish last in the East but that matters less for odds (though it does after the top picks are selected), and maybe they can trade up if they get a couple more assets for Lowry/Norm and anyone not named FVV/Siakam/OG. Add in the fact that they are playing every game like an away game and this season is destined to be a very hard one to navigate and one that can be reset from for next year.

If I might add more mud in the water, it all depends on Lowry. If he like DD wants to finish his career in a Raptor uniform he would take less money next year and come off of the bench. The problem with that idea is that the Raptors could hardly expect a player to take one for the team after the way they treated DD and to some extent Ibaka. Experienced players are more interested in winning a championship wherever that is. Certainly there are ways to keep Lowry but Lowry has to want to stay. I wouldn't hold my breath. Likely see him move to a contender. Same for Norm. These guys want to make more money while there is a demand. Lowry can afford to be choosey as he already has the big payday (twice) and a championship. If I'm Norm I'm going wherever the money takes me. The sad part for Raptor fans is that JV and DD back on this team would immediately make this team a contender. Ibaka wouldn't hurt either.
If Lowry went to the Clippers for picks and say Ibaka MU could look like a genius getting Ibaka back for 2 years at less money. While that is not likely to happen like I said MU would be looking like a genius. MU may have a trade plan but barring that this team is toast as they don't have the talent onboard to win it all and they have veteran players who won't be interested in sticking around for a rebuild. For me the question is who can MU bring in to supplement his core or a stud who can lead the core as fast as possible. After all FVV, Siakam, OG aren't really interested in being a bottom feeder for the next 3 or 4 years while waiting for a saviour to come along.
This very scenario was why I was not enthusiastic about Leonard. MU gambled and won. Imagine the outcry if they had traded away all that talent and got no ring to validate the risk of having a mediocre team for the foreseeable future.

The way Norm is playing lately, he should have some good value too.
If you can grab a good piece for the future for Lowry and Norm each, that'd be exciting..

Still feels wrong coming up with Lowry trades. Miami is rumoured to be interested. Precious Achiwua seems like the prototypical Masai guy, born in Africa, started playing college later than most prospects but extremely productive in his one year of college, excellent wingspan and athletic profile. Mentioned during his predraft interviews he knows Siakam and OG personally and looks up to both of them. I'd think maybe Lowry for Iguoudala (who we'd probably buy out), Olynyk, and Achiwua. Or if Miami was worried about losing too much frontcourt depth, Lowry and Baynes for Iggy, Olynyk, Achiwua and Avery Bradley.

With OG probably coming back next game, what's the best line-up?
Powell is a different player when starting compared to the bench. I believe it's part mental, part the players that he is on the floor with (a bigger part mental to be honest). Would he serve us better with 25 minutes off the bench, since we lack scoring? Yes, but his production there is minimal.
Can OG serve as a PJ Tucker-like centre? Lowry-FVV-Norm-Spicy-OG?
Boucher, Bembry, Stanley and Davis will be hit and miss offensively, but as long as we have at least a couple of starters with these guys it may serve well?
Best part of this plan: No Baynes!!

We've talked about it already, but seems like the rumors of Drummond to Toronto are getting very strong right now.
Sounds like if it is just between these 2 teams than it would cost likely Norm, Baynes, McCaw and Johnson just to make contacts work. I sort of expect another team to get involved.

Drummond's sitting out until he gets traded or bought out, and now Blake Griffin is also sitting out until he gets traded or bought out (with Detroit probably being the one to give up assets to convince a team to take his contract). It's crazy to think only two years ago these guys were the two best players on a playoff team. Pretty slick trade for the Clippers since they basically turned Blake Griffin into Tobias Harris (who they effectively traded for two 1st rounders) and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. I'm not a huge fan of how the Clips then turned around and dumped all those assets plus more just to get Paul George, but it was pretty slick maneuvering overall to get off the treadmill with Chris Paul and Griffin.

Drummond's an expiring contract and i don't see the Raps signing him to an extension.
Are the Raps a better team with Drummond? Possibly.
Are they a championship or even an ECF team with him? No.
So for possibly two rounds in the playoffs, we'd be giving up prospects, picks, and causing more riffs in our gelled core if Powell was included.
Still a hard pass.

I can't argue with any of the reasons. I think Drummond is an obvious improvement to what we have now and fixed one of our biggest problems in rebounding (29 in the league) and helps another in defense (19). People talk about empty stats with him not actually helping winning but I don't sign up for that. When you are a complementary player on a terrible team with no one to compliment your whole career it's tough to show much of anything. I think Drummond could end up being a good fit here given our current needs, and is probably a bit underrated at this point in his career.
That being said I am against the trade more in the sense that this will help us improve to be top 6 range and maybe make it out of the first round but not much more and the cost of it isn't just Norm and maybe some chemistry (with Norm expiring this year too it seems plausible he leaves after this year anyways so not much lost) but more that we give up a lower pick this year to do it. There's more value in getting assets for Norm and Lowry that can help this team next year and drop in the standings than there is in going for it. As long as the plan is only to be bad this year when we have the away from home excuse but they spend their CEO and build a winner next year with a nice high pick included.
