This would be pretty boring, but Raptors Rapture is saying Raptors might have waived Len because Yuta Watanabe is on a two-way contract right now which would limit how many games he can play with the team this season, and getting rid of Len opens up a spot to convert Yuta to a regular one-way contract. boring, yet Yuta has proven so far to be a decent spot energy guy off the bench.
Where's Bebe playing these days???
I know I'm digging up a super old comment but Bebe was apparently playing this year in the top Brazilian league Novo Basquete Brasil, and then announced in February that he was retiring at 28. I tried looking up his stats on the Brazilian team's website and was instantly transported back to 2002: www.basquetecearense.com.br/

Recent article on The Ringer about the Sixers missing their chance at the finals. It is relevant to the Raptors because they bring in Lowry and the recent rumors trying to acquire him. Frankly I would be on board sending Lowry to Philly to give him another chance at the title while also winning one in his home town. Kind of a best case scenario for moving on from him, give him that chance as a nice gesture then have him retire a Raptor in the end. That's IF we are going to move on from him. I would be totally cool sticking to what we got and trying to get to the 2nd round and then probably losing. I think people devalue that type of team too much since they aren't winning the title their garbage. I find this is a stronger position to play from as your players are still learning winning habits. www.theringer.com/nba/2021/3/3/22310551/philadelphia-76ers-joel-embiid-nba-finals

I think Lowry to Philly could work in terms of the assets they're able to offer, and for keeping Lowry himself happy. The only thing I don't like about trading him to an Eastern conference rival, is it's not guaranteed to be a rental for just this year. Lowry's game isn't based off raw athleticism, and he could still be effective for another two-three years at least. Philly could end up being willing to offer the most money in the off-season since they would have his Bird rights, and he could become a Raptor killer every time we face Philly in the playoffs.

FVV, Siakam, OG, Flynn and McCaw all to miss tomorrow's game against the pistons. That's not looking good. Kyle better be ready for him plus bench superiority because he's going to be playing it all game. Matt Thomas going off for 20+ tonight. Let's go!

I think it comes down to the offer. Hes the greatest Raptor and has more value to the Raptors that he does to other teams. Any team that wants him has to respect that and give up some real value. I'm not dealing Lowry as a low cost rental just to be a nice guy. Here's what I want:
1. Young player(s) with talent and potential. Preferably a big man. 2. If young player(s) acquired are backcourt players, then I also want a vet big which can help now. 3. Picks. 1st round pick plus 2nd round pick.
I'm not even sure that is enough. I have no idea how to make the numbers work with Lowrys salary being so high, but the Raptors have something that could put a team into the finals and that shouldn't be discounted.

Trading Lowry could be a team saver. Probably not. The Leonard trade did not save the Spurs. Mainly because the Raptors and Spurs were going in 2 different directions at the time. Plus I don't think you see 3 or 4 players for Lowry. Lowry thrives on team play not carrying the team. He will step up on occasion but that is not his bread and butter. He will make great players greater, good teams better and give top D for his position. He would definitely put a team on the edge over the top. The other side of the coin is his value to the Raptors. The team has a core of players that are good right now. Ideally rebuilds or retooling take 3 years or so which means the core is 3 years older. Losing wears on your good players and coaches. FVV has already stated that he has never played on a losing team before and he wasn't used to what he was seeing (from an interview earlier this year) poor play from his team (2-8). The Raptors really are up against it with Lowry because of his contract. If he were paid less it would be a no brainer to keep him.

Quick look at Philly and we would HAVE to take back Danny Green from them as his 15 million exciting would be essential to get salaries close at all. I would be pretty good on a deal that includes one of their young guys including, and also even if it is just Curry that comes back that would be a decent deal, he's got 2 years left after this at about 8 million a year so you're keeping some longer term value. Throw in any picks and that might be a steal for us.
Throw norm into starting spot and Curry into norm's role (that Thomas should have had).

I don't know if this would be worth it for the Raps, but I think the most likely type of deal would be Green, Mike Scott, Tony Ferguson (all expirings) and one of either Tyrese Maxey/Matisse Thybulle plus a 1st. They pretty much have to include Green to match salaries which makes me think they wouldn't want to throw in Curry as well as another veteran shooter. I like Curry although it's too bad because I feel like Matt Thomas really is just in an identical position to Curry a couple years ago before Seth started getting minutes, and could be the same player for us without having to give up assets.

When i saw that The Spurs and LMA were parting ways, i got a little excited because i thought it was a buy-out, but it's looking like they're going to trade him. I'm guessing his salary is up there, so we'd have to give up too much to make them match.
Would of been nice seeing him in a Raps jersey after passing on him back in he day for He Who Must Not Be Named.
Speaking of jerseys, i'm liking the new purple earned ones!

My prediction is LMA goes to the Celtics using their Gordon Hayward trade exception, and they send a 1st or a pair of seconds to the Spurs.

Nice statement made by Lowry today about regardless what happens, he will retire a Raptor (one day contract, etc)

It makes sense.
Lowry's career became a legit NBA career in Toronto. He became what it is here.
He also turned the franchise around.
I imagine Masai has sat with him and discussed opportunities. If it makes sense, there's a trade.

According to reports from other teams, Raptors are not responsive to Lowry inquiries at this point at least. www.tsn.ca/josh-lewenberg-would-the-raptors-consider-moving-red-hot-norman-powell-ahead-of-trade-deadline-1.1609888Also seems to make a lot of logical sense that Norm is about to get moved. Seems extremely unlikely at this point that they sign him to another contract at the new value and then be locked into this core that isn't quite good enough with no money left. Also he is a great pickup to a contender who doesn't have cap space because he is cheap now at 10 mill so doesn't take much to get now and then they will have the ability to sign him they wouldn't have had otherwise.

2 big mistakes that Masai/Bobby has made during their time with the Raps:
1) Not being straight with Demar
2) Low-balling Serge
One cost a relationship, the other a player leaving. Both could of been preventable with a little better communication. Don't get me wrong, Masai and Bobby have done great, no, amazing things for the organization, but these 2 faux pas were avoidable. I just hope that they learn from their mistakes and are better from it (which i believe they have).

So what if there wasn't a covid outbreak in the team, The Raps play .500 ball over their losing streak and LA gets bought out. Would of the Raps had a chance in signing him? And how would he of fit with the roster?

Raptors are razor thin on real talent. Top 5 players would be starters on most if not all teams. Big drop off on the bench. That was bound to happen when you give up multiple players for one player. The bench mob was wiped out for the cup and it never was restocked with the same level of talent. I assume that the bench talent are on the 905 at the moment. Davis and Thomas have not made the next move and we all know there is no guarantee that they will. So right now all they have are 5 really good players. Boucher was definitely a surprise to me even though he had high value in the G league, mainly due to his size. He will get better and deserves to be on the team as a starter or 6th man. Getting just a good 5 man only fixes the starting lineup it doesn't restock the bench. While they could have stood the loss of Leonard and that is saying something about the talent level of the Raptors losing Gasol and Ibaka for nothing as well was just too much. MU created all of this cap space for a FA and now that none are available I would pay Norm and keep him. Five starters would have the lion's share of the salaries which is the normal for most teams.

For whatever the reports are worth right now, Raptors are linked to pursuing Jarrett Allen in RFA. Considering Raptors don't have leaks this info is often just an agent saying this smart management team wants my guy so who knows. But to play a little dreaming game here, if Lowry goes for Tyler Herro and Norm goes for some draft stuff and we were able to sign Jarrett Allen and he doesn't get matched (which he almost guaranteed will) then the lineup could be FVV, Herro, OG, Siakam, Allen + a potentially high draft pick. I know this deficit isn't insurmountable but I feel like this draft thing is the way to go right now. Loaded draft for top 10 picks, we would be 9th or something like that with a 6 percent chance to go 1st and a 30% chance to move to top 4. If we slip 2 more spots it jumps to 10 and 40. Those are real odds at getting one of what looks like 3 or 4 franchise players to go with our core. That's a championship team in 2-3 years for sure.

Siakam was fined 50k today for a "heated exchange" with Nick Nurse. It's getting a bit weird, he came to the bubble unprepared, was sat earlier in the season for disciplinary reasons, now this. He's going pretty quickly from budding All-Star, face of the franchise, to a guy who might be additional by subtraction.
Here's something I've been mulling. I don't know if it really works for either team, but: basically some sort of Siakam for Vucevic package, or maybe Siakam/Norm for Vucevic/Aaron Gordon. It's hard as a Raptors fan to get excited about Vucevic because he got sonned so thoroughly by Gasol over the years, and he's 30 and might not line up with our long term timeline if we do have to tear it down. But he is an elite offensive big man. And if Orlando thinks Khem Birch and Mo Bamba are ready to step up and play bigger roles at C, they might want a more traditional PF who is a couple years younger.

I dont want to trade Siakam. Just want to move him down in the pecking order where his abilities belong. He wasn't and still isnt ready to take on the mantle of being a teams best player and go to option on offense. Playing him at centre last night just amplified that fact and was quite possibly the reason for the confrontation with Nurse.

Siakam needs a hard reality check.
This guy rose to stardom due to his hustle and insane level of dedication to basketball. He, by all accounts, seems to have taken a number of steps back, put up his feet and started to coast. He is not Lebron-level talented nor should he ever think he can coast in this league. He is not naturally elite enough. He needs to pull up his socks and get back to his roots. That $$$ contract went right to his head.

Certainly I know nothing.
But if you accept groundless conjecture...
Lowry is on board with the trade.
Masai is holding out for Hero over Robinson.
The game of chicken between Miami and Toronto is going to last until the final hours.

I'd honestly be happy with either Herro or Robinson. Obviously it's smarter to try for Herro because he has higher upside. But he could be all over the map, sometimes he looks like a Gordon Hayward type player, other times I wonder if he's basically just Justise Winslow with more hype. You know Robinson is going to have that solid 10 year Kyle Korver type career even if he's never going to be a guy you build your team around.

Biggest difference between Herro and Duncan is that Herro has 2 years on his contact after this year on a rookie deal before he is a RFA, Duncan is RFA this off season so you need to be ready to pay him upwards of 15 to 20 next off season or it's not worth trading for.
