Up 700? wow, how did you manage that? I suck at basketball betting but I usually do pretty well at football. I did a bunch of 7, 8, 9, 10 leg parlays in NFL playoffs and almost all of them cashed, betting the lowest possible player props. So like Kelce needs 30 yards receiving when he was averaging 70+ a game, that type of thing. The risk of course is if one guy gets hurt early in the game it doesn't matter how low the prop is, it blows up the whole parlay. But it did pretty well, was cashing out at 7 to 1 pretty regularly you made me look at the betting again so I did my blowout beg against the Raptors and hit them all. Bet 4, won 18.

Nice! If the Raptors are going to be terrible might as well have some fun rooting against them

Raps won me the first quarter bet by logging very well, but then started within 14 when I needed 16 to get me the halftime one.
Oh well usually hitting 1 means you break even on the game so I already got that going for me. Sucks to cheer against them but also makes losing much more palatable I guess too.

Came here to post exactly that.
This is going to become more of a problem. The Ohtani story in baseball, Porter here.
You know there's a bunch of other dudes doing it... a few missed shots, a few missed boards, maybe a turnover... you gotta wonder how many guys are in it...
And it's the league's fault. Every league out there. Sports betting commercials and ads are EVERYWHERE. There's atleast a dozen sites to bet on.

I guess my post about Porter hopefully realizing that his NBA life is on the line didn't sink in. How could a fringe player on tbe cusp of realizing his dream and perhaps about to sign a million dollar contract fall for gambling issues for likely chump money?

How could a fringe player on tbe cusp of realizing his dream and perhaps about to sign a million dollar contract fall for gambling issues for likely chump money? Yeah Woj is revealing the amounts now and saying it made them suspicious when people suddenly started trying to bet 20k unders but most sportsbooks only let you bet 1 or 2k max on player unders. Even if it was 20k it’s chump money like you say compared to throwing away kid whole career

I can't tell from Woz's reporting if Porter was actively involved or if he just had loose lips and the people around him were taking advantage of that. I could image something like that happening very easily (like insider trading). But not a great look either way.

I could image something like that happening very easily (like insider trading). But not a great look either way. Woj sure seems to imply Porter was actively involved because both times he had some sort of pre-existing condition--an eye injury and then a mystery illness--where the coaching staff ruled he was healthy enough to play, then he pulled himself out of the game with less than 4 minutes playing time and close to 0s across the board. So it seems less like accidentally leaking 'my eye is bugging me, might not be my best night' and more like deliberately playing just enough that sportsbooks would have to honour the bets, but not enough he could generate any stats.

It's all chimp change compared to millions, but it was multiple accounts betting 10k on unders, so while a single bet might be small, if they parlay that into a string of under that 10k could pay 50 or more. With multiple of them it could be a nice payday. If you think you're career is done I guess go for it, but fuck man at least don't put such massive bets down. Or get overs on yourself for rebounds and just go fucking wild for them.

What are the current bets for Raptors' season wins? For whether they'll win again before the end of the season?

Also, can I get odds on whether The Ringer will have a hard-hitting look at this story and the ethics of sports betting?

This is wild. I'm willing to bet (ha-ha) that there's definatly more fringe guys out there putting out "insider" news. Maybe Fred's "bet on yourself" goes deeper than this....

Raptor Moments put together a pretty good video looking at the two games under review. Porter's either in on it or is just an incredibly soft, lazy player. Either way his career is done.

The one that would be interesting and a lot harder to prove, is if players bet their unders and then deliberately got into foul trouble. Porter's unders really seem to stick out because he's just floating and then faking an injury after three or four minutes. But all you'd have to do is look like you're trying super hard, going out there and trying to get blocks and steals, rack up two or three early fouls and you get stapled to the bench for long periods of time. That would look a lot less suspicious and be much harder to prove.

Listening to TrueHoop talk about MVP award currently and say SGA is the best player this year overwhelmingly in advanced stats yet currently Jokic is the heavy odds favorite. They said they are doing some national media this next few weeks and will be talking about that.
I got curious so I went to check on the odds and SGA is 3rd best odds but paying at 20 to 1, so I put 5 bucks to pay 100. Hoping the narrative changes over the next few weeks and OKC gets first in the West.
The next straw poll amongst media results come in next week so hopefully he makes some way to the front.

I took the 700 in my account and put it on two bets about a month ago: 450 on Tyrese Maxey for Most Improved Player, pays out at 1.53 to 1. I don't like how often I'm seeing Jalen Williams and Coby White popping up in media polls but this just felt like an easy win to me, hopefully free money.
Also put 250 on Naz Reid to win 6th man at 4.75 to 1. I think he deserves it but we'll see, Malik Monk is still considered the betting favourite. I'm hoping Reid pulls through for a few reasons: 1) recency bias, Malik is injured to end the season and Reid has been starting in place of KAT and consistently putting up 20+ most games. 2) More team success, Reid is contributed to number 1 seed in the west and Kings will be lucky to make the playoffs.
I'm still on Sports Interaction and they have a profit and loss sheet now showing how much you've made in the past year. I'm currently up $1600 on the year, so I guess I could lose both bets and still be ahead. I'm no Jontay Porter when it comes to betting but it's still been pretty solid overall

Ya man that's pretty damn good, hopefully those bets come in for you. I haven't had nearly as much luck. Did well in the Over/Under this year but the daily bets not so much.

But I’m encouraged Reid is in first for 6th man right now even though it’s close. I basically just went Maxey and Reid as soon as best players on their teams went down to injury because I figured they’d get more points/opportunities but the extra defensive attention on Maxey might have actually hurt him

Terrible draft pick by the Falcons though, that one feels less like something I should've predicted and more like a glitch in the Matrix
