After more than a decade, it's over. Kaputt.
Yes, I'm talking about my cheat to read ESPN Insider stories. Since 2003, I've been cutting and pasting the ID numbers from Insider stories into an old URL that allowed me to read nearly anything.
But apparently once they redid the website to make it mobile-friendly, it wiped out my cheat. So sad~

What I find more disturbing that the parents being charged, is that the neighbours called the cops instead of talking to the kid or inviting him inside until his parents got home!

Holy crap, it took over two months for the results to come in, but I'm still batting 1.000 on Wine and Spirit Education Trust Exams.
"Pass With Distinction", the highest honour available in the organization.
Now to see if I can find somebody who will employ me and pay for my Diploma.

Well gents, I got a life changing email today. I have been given an offer of employment from Bruce Power. You're looking at the next Bruce A Engineering Section Manager - Components and Programs. It's been a long term goal of mine to achieve a position like this, and the future only looks to be getting brighter. As I'm typing this, I'm wondering if any of you will really give a crap...which reminds me of a joke:
A man goes in to a Roman Catholic confessional. Priest - Tell me your sins my son. Man - Well...I slept with two women at the same time last night. Priest - Our Lord is merciful. Say 10 Hail Marys and 10 Our Fathers and you will be forgiven. Man - But I don't know the words. Priest - Really! Why not? Man - I'm Jewish. Priest - Then why are you here telling me this? Man - Are you kidding? I'm telling everyone!

Tech, dude, that's an awesome opportunity. Glad it came to you! And I know nuclear power is something you've always been passionate about, so I'm really happy for you!

Congrat, Tech. I just spent the last year working for a company that's big into nuclear power (and all sorts of heavy industries), and it was quite fascinating ... even from my very non-technical position. Sadly, that's coming to an end, as I move into the even more dubious and ephemeral world of PR next week.

Thanks for the love everyone! Just remember, if the power goes out in Toronto, it's not my fault. So I take it we all get a discount on our hydro bills? That reminds me...I just started a new job at York Region District School Board in their recruitment office. Just remember, if your kids end up with crummy teachers, its not my fault!!! Seriously though congrats man. I don't know you well enough in your day to day, but with all the work you do here I assume its well earned!!!

I know it's not your fault if my kids end up with crummy teachers. We have a crummy premier and a crummy system, so I just kind of expect my kids to have teachers who can't teach. If I end up with half-assed-decent teachers, I consider that a major win against expected outcomes.

Congrats Tech! Do you have to relocate? Partially. I have been at Bruce Power for almost a year as an independent contractor in their projects division, but retained my Toronto place as my permanent address. Now I'll have to sell off my condo in Toronto and purchase a house up here. Spent a lot of time (off and on) in Bruce County during a major refurbishment project at Bruce A from 2007 to 2012 though so it's familiar territory. I'm happy to be here though as I've grown sick of the GTA. I get to live in a (rental) log house on a 14 acre lot overlooking Lake Huron, so really can't complain. View from my porch: Seriously though congrats man. I don't know you well enough in your day to day, but with all the work you do here I assume its well earned!!! Thanks man, it took a lot of crappy jobs to build up my resume to the point where I could realistically be considered for a job like this.

I love that part of Ontario. My family used to have a cottage in the Stokes Bay area that we went to every summer. Very jealous.

$1.64 million: total warranty receipts of calendar year 2014 at my place of employment. I took over in late August.
$1.76 million: total warranty receipts from Jan 1 - July 31 2015. And I have at least another $300,000 already that has been collected but not posted yet. And another $250,000 that one manufacturer owes but hasn't paid yet because they reassigned their warranty rep to being a service writer when they were looking for a replacement.
Total travesty: making significantly less than my predecessor.
So I told my boss today that I'm taking the next 5 months off. I've met any reasonable expectation they could have had for me when they assigned me to that job, so I'll see you next January. Because if you're not going to pay for my ungodly production, then I don't see why I should have to crush expectations by a factor of 70% or so. I'll just continue to collect my paycheques and work according to my productivity.
And it's not like my predecessor was incompetent or lazy, although several lower-management types wanted to portray things thusly. I've finally started challenging that. I told our parts manager today, when he repeated that line: "There was nothing wrong with "Joe". He was very good at what he did. He collected about 4% of maintenance spend via warranty; national average for trucking companies is 3%. So he was quite good at what he did. But I'm collecting 12% of spend, and there's several reasons for that, but a big reason is that I'm not just good at this game: I'm the gold standard, and you should probably recognize that. Nobody else can come in and fill all of my shoes, and I don't see why that should be so difficult to understand."

Sad to hear that Rowdy Roddy Piper died today. Probably the most famous Canadian pro wrestler next to Bret Hart. He beat non-hodgkin's lymphoma but unfortunately his heart got to him in the end.
Such a great entertainer, one of the true "sports entertainers", sans the pharmaceutical enhancement.

Niceeee, where abouts on Lake Ontario? We pushed out from Mississauga, and then basically went due south and fished just around the Canada-US border in a big circle. Cold water out there, man. 38F at 60' depth. People looked at me like I was crazy when I said I was going to eat the fish. Firstly, Great Lakes pollution has improved tremendously over the past 30 years. (Mostly because all the polluters went out of business and it's just condos down near the water now.) Secondly, the water is really, really cold. I watched the first mate filet the fish myself and these things were in pristine condition. On a similar note, just got my first fly rod in the mail today. So tomorrow early AM I'll be wading out into Conestogo river. My cousin from Pennsylvania has gotten me into this. He's always been a huge fisherman, and he's right now dying of cancer and he's trying desperately to make sure I keep up his tradition. He believes fishing is the best way to forge relationships between boys and men. Given how close I am to him, because the first time I ever met him he took me fishing, I'd say he has a great point. I've been going down to see him every two weeks, and he's been teaching me all kinds of stuff. The first time I went, he had zero energy - so he plunks me down with some rope and a one of his four reference books on knots and says "I'm having a nap. Learn how to tie a bowline by the time I wake up."

What, we're not claiming Dwayne Johnson anymore? LOL, there's a proud tradition in RaptorsChat history - if not all of human history - to declare the recently deceased as The Greatest Ever. We all do it. I remember the day Steve Irwin (Croc Hunter) died. A bunch of 16 year old "males" were working themselves into a sob-fest because of this because he was The Greatest Naturalist Ever. I wasn't well received when I pointed out that if ever a guy had it coming, it was him. And then, for good measure, I applauded the stingray who offed him. Mango, I'm sure, remembers that.
