I guess it’s time for a new NBA season thread, since it’s no longer the off season. Yay.
And we get to start with some good news — looks like Ben Simmons is going to face consequences for being an asshat. Also yay.

Another successful case of mandatory vaccines making people who otherwise wouldn't get the vaccine get it rather than lose money. Andrew Wiggins has now decided, despite being an idiot, to go against that judgement and get vaccinated rather than give away some 15 to 20 million dollars. Seems like the obvious choice there I think.

Not sure where to put this but 18 former NBA players have been arrested for defrauding the league's Health and Welfare Benefit Plan out of 4 million dollars, including former Raptors Milt Palacio, Sebastien Telfair, Antoine Wright, Alan Anderson, and Jamario Moon. Others include Darius Miles, Big Baby Davis, Tony Allen, and "Kobe Stopper" Ruben Patterson.
Apparently former Rocket PF Terrence Williams helped submit a bunch of fraudulent injury claims in exchange for kickbacks from the other players. Seems actually pretty serious, 16 of the players already in custody

Apparently the Nets have now said that Kyrie won't be a part time player and won't join the team for any practices or away games until he is ready to join the team full time.
Kyrie could end up forfeiting millions and maybe his entire career because he's afraid of a safe vaccine. He's next level stupid.
Just trade Kyrie for Simmons and be done with them both.

A coward for an idiot, who says no? Realistically could be a good move for both teams. Kyrie would be a great fit on the 76ers and Simmons would be able to make passes and otherwise hide and cut on offense for the Nets. Probably would make both teams better.

This is probably my favorite NBA-related thread on Twitter so far this year. It's totally worth reading all the way down.

Ok, i am starting to hate talking about this Ben Simmons and Kyrie Irving stuff too much as it's all everyone is talking about...however, it should be mentioned because it's hilariously bad, that Remona Shelbourne came out with a story today that before game 7 last year against the Hawks apparently the team masseuse might have been exposed to COVID and had an inconclusive test and they asked the players themselves who saw the masseuse. What gets heavily implied here is that the players can just lie or not respond so that they don't get held out of the game for COVID protocols. Ben responded to say that he saw the masseuse, meaning he would have to sit out game 7 if it came back positive which it obviously didn't. There is team speculation that he didn't actually even see the masseuse and that he was just saying it to have to sit out of the game, apparently they believe no one saw the masseuse or something like that. nba.nbcsports.com/2021/10/15/report-some-76ers-suspected-ben-simmons-faked-potential-coronavirus-exposure-to-dodge-game-7-vs-hawks/

I actually can't get enough of it. The article does seem like a random hitpiece though. Why put this out when Simmons finally reported?

A coward for an idiot, who says no? Bottom line is Kyrie is a much, much better player, but if he isn't actually allowed to play that is somewhat academic.

But Kyrie can play in Philadelphia, I believe. Much looser rules than NYC. 41 home games, good to go. 41 fourth quarters is 41 more than Simmons plays.

It sounds like you're saying Philly shouldn't do it because of on court synergy buy Philly is missing on court synergy anyways. Philly is missing that on court creation that Kyrie is good at. I think he would be awesome on Philly and can play every game.

But, yeah, Kylie would be a better fit too … assuming he doesn’t think Philadelphia is past the flat edge of the world or the ice wall or whatever crazy thing he believes this week.

As it stands the trade would be a get out of stupid jail free card for both teams. Articles are starting to come out saying he told the sixers he wanted a restart on a team that isn't in the hunt ( uproxx.com/dimemag/ben-simmons-trade-sixers-fresh-start-make-mistakes/ ) but honestly I don't really believe it.

Ya in an insane twist apparently Ben blamed Philly for being too good that he didn't he need to develop further. So it's their fault he didn't learn any new skills.

Marquese Chriss was waived the other day.
Remember how it was between him and Sabonis for many people. We ended up with Ninja Poeltl.
Former #2 pick in Jabari Parker also waived.

Jabari "I don't have to play defense because i can score" Parker.
I saw it mentioned he was waived and just laughed. He had every opportunity to have a good NBA career and was basically told all the time to just play harder on defense but he refused. Bet he would like a do-over now.

He tore his ACL twice on the same knee. He had a problem with conditioning, a bit like...Zion.
It's a testament to modern medicine that Parker actually stayed in the league so long.

Images are funny. Everyone knows you can look more jacked for a picture by just doing some pushups or something. I hope he is doing well, I'm afraid at this point he'll be a career of problems and we never see the potential of Zion. He needs good management above him and i feel like he does not have that at all with Griffin who has really looked like a joke to me. When they held him out they talked about how he has a lot of weight but can build muscle so quickly that it's difficult but he needs a focused plan to lose some weight to extend his career before his knees are finished.

Zions foot fracture, called a Jones Fracture, is from overuse. One of the biggest risks of re-injury: increased weight through it. I bet that he'll be on and off the DL throughout the season. Could very well need another surgery if not manage correctly. He needs a talking to and make him realize that this could be career threatening.

Thanks Springer, that's what I was thinking without anywhere near the knowledge of fact. They are letting him do what he wants and not helping him with stuff like the Raptors do where they hire a chef permanently at their training to make healthy good food that's available all the time. If he lost 40 pounds he would be incredible.

Durant had a Jones fracture in his OKC tenure and all the worry was about it threatening his career. But he's a longboi with the Slim Reaper as a nickname, and Zion is a sentient fridge. After building the prerequsite strength, Durant's slim stature and wiry strength is probably the source of his longevity so far. That and the Achilles tear would have ended basically any other player. But he hasn't missed a beat.

Morey called his bluff and Simmons appears to be going scorched earth. I have no idea how his trade value is supposed to rebound from here on out. I'd say it'll only get worse and competing GMs will just get more and more vulture like.

I guess they are going for rock bottom until he gives up and plays hard to increase his value... Although honestly this bad attitude is going to limit the top end of his value I don't see how gets much better offers than what he got in the summer.
