So Im on day 3. Fever has diminished, though not all gone. No headache anymore. I slept last night after 2 very hot nights unable to sleep, so not as tired today. I still have a cough and chest congestion but the Nyquil seems to control that pretty well. My appetite came back today. Chicken soup, wish I had another can. Unless something strange happens or this cough drags on I think I could be ready for work next week. Though I probably won't be allowed.
Troublesome part is that I can't get tested. People at work would like to know but my resperatory symptoms aren't drastic enough to warrant my taking the test of someone in more serious condition. Test kits are limited. If it is the flu, do I want to expose myself to people who could have Covid 19 at a test facility? Ive tried the hotline numerous times. Only once was I able to get into a queue and that hung up on me after 5 minutes. Should I be tested even after I have recovered? Questions without answers.

There were talks about recurrence chances - might as well take an extra week (if feasible) to recover fully before heading to work even if you are back to normal. And it will likely will reduce risks of transmission.

Stories like this make me realize how ill prepared we are for this. South Korea is testing everyone and it's leading to "good" results. We can't even test enough people. As soon as this began happening, Canada should've started manufacturing PPE equipment, extra medical care equipment and more tests. I don't know feasible it is to build more medical care equipment but you throw money at that and make it happen.

Stories like this make me realize how ill prepared we are for this. South Korea is testing everyone and it's leading to "good" results. We can't even test enough people. Yeah, it took Korea a couple of big failures (like MERS) to smarten up and fix its system. Humanity just isn't good at being proactive in the face of risk. We only seem to learn from negative experiences.

Its day 5. There was no change between day 3 and 4. Heavy chest congestion and cough. As the fever and headache were gone, I switched from Nyquil to an expectorant to help my congestion. Maybe made me cough more but I think it helped. I woke up this morning lighter in the chest and able to breathe deeply. Once I got up and walked around it got a little worse and probably will over the course of the day. However, I took a walk to the end of the street and back without sweating or weakness. I think each morning will be better from this point on. I never did develop a sore throat, thankfully. I put that down to gargling salt water 4-6 times a day. I hate a sore throat.

Well Im a little disappointed. I would have bet I'd be better by now but this damn cough and congestion linger. I wake up each morning decent and deteriorate until I pack it in for bed. Usually pretty early. I have family, friends, and coworkers all pestering for my condition and for the last three days all I can say is no change. People tell me I sound better but the improvement is incremental rather than dramatic. 8 days is a hell of a long time for me to be sick, but I'm still probably looking at several more days. I can't do anything more with medication or home made stuff. I've got suggestions coming out of my ears.
I still haven't been tested. I haven't bothered to try and get tested after the original foray. I have some questions about that. Each day I see than many people have been tested and a large percentage are negative. Who are all these negative tests? Do they have symptoms like mine? I mean I've got them all and fairly serious. Does that mean there is also a lot of people who just have the flu? That would suck if that's all I have.
I haven't gone anywhere since that little walk I took on Friday and now I see that its snowing. That blows. I wish it was warmer. I d like to get out if only a little bit.

Mandatory shutdown of all non-essentially offices in Ontario. Hope everyone is able to work from home or withstand the loss of funds. Tough times ahead for all of us.

It sucks to be sick so long but I'm relieved to hear you're at least recovering safely at home and it doesn't appear to be even more serious. Thanks for the update!

Try to get outside for some fresh air freewheel as you improve you can increase your time. Fresh air and sun are a free gift- so far- so take advantage. It might be good to get tested although the only thing you will learn is how much longer to quarantine yourself. If you are fighting it on your own it is doubtful they would prescribe anything. Many doctors aren't taking anyone into their office right now so not sure what protocol is currently in place. Surely the medical community has a plan even if the government doesn't.
Hang in there buddy.

So I am on mend. Not 100 percent yet but aside from some nasty sinus congestion that is slowly clearing, I feel normal. Monday night I slept for about 11 hours. I think that was my body declaring the war has been won. Just a few more days of recovery.
I got through the hotline to see if they would like to test me and was told that I'd probably be refused. No point. Once the symptoms are gone I must wait 48 hours and then I'm free of isolation. Good thing because I ran out of toothpaste. A near disaster.
Thank you for any concern you might have had though I never felt in any danger. Unless you call misery dangerous. I hope Covid 19 causes none of you any more danger than I had, perhaps someday I will find out if that is actually what I had.

Not much new in Maritimes. In NB we still have fewer than 100 infected but still climbing. Everything is shut down pretty much or open by appointment. I'm supposed to be building a house this year and was informed today that our electrical power company is only handling emergencies so all construction starts on hold. Construction is our big industry since we have little manufacturing. Also prices down on seafood (if you are selling)so fishermen are not going out. Of course if you (consumer) are buying there are no deals. Weird how that works. Hate to say we are being gouged.

TBH my biggest concern is how I'm ever going to return to a functioning adult...waking up at 9-10 every day, going to bed late, showering late, eating whenever I want... dang.

How are we all staying sane? TBH my biggest concern is how I'm ever going to return to a functioning adult...waking up at 9-10 every day, going to bed late, showering late, eating whenever I want... dang. I do music for film and TV and I've worked mostly alone in my basement studio for the past 20 years. So I've been going through the reverse, forced to be more of a functioning adult with my wife and kids home all the time now. Before if I wanted to stay up until 3 or 4 a.m. it wasn't really an issue because I knew I could just wake up long enough in the morning to get my kids off to school and wife off to work, then go back to sleep until 10 or 10:30. Now I know if I stay up super late I can't really sleep in because I'm trying to keep the kids on their normal schedule and basically homeschool them. I've lost some weight because I find with people constantly around, there's a bit more self-scrutiny like "do I really need to eat this granola bar" whereas I don't really give it a second thought when I'm working alone. Plus it feels weird leaving the house for non-essential snack food, looking at a cashier with a mask and gloves behind glass like "hey buddy do you really need to risk my safety for a bag of All Dressed chips". I guess maybe if I start ordering delivery online I'd sink back into old habits of buying whatever the hell I want.

Honestly my life hasn't been impacted poorly yet, I work from home now which I would prefer to do most of the time anyways. I'm eating healthier in general because I'm making most of my stuff. And I was in the midst of working on my basement anyways so I'm just working on that all the time still.
I did get a bit into video games again which I don't really do often.
I've been going for walks more since we barely move anymore and more than anything I need to get more into exercise now.

I was a freelance writer for a lot of years, so I'm pretty comfortable sitting at home and working whenever. But now, with the family and schools cancelled, I'm living a more adult life than I used to. I have a rowing machine at home, so I'm still getting a bit of exercise. But dealing with young kids 24/7 is my biggest headache now.

A real butterfly effect is some dude on the other side of the world basically eating iffy bat meat and bringing the global economy to its knees. Even scarier is that businesses are basically living cheque-to-cheque, like a startlingly amount of people are. Really, the alarm should have been sounded when China, an authoritarian regime, actually shutdown everything over it. America had 2 months notice and are caught blatantly flatfooted and woefully underprepared. It's not even that Trump didn't do anything, it's that he literally denied COVID's existence. There is going to be a wonderful clash of reality and denialism. It's the kind of stuff that turns elections and defines generations. It's too bad the DNC is looking like a death cult themselves and have cut off all the candidates in favour of universal healthcare (if you look into how much a politician costs, you'd be stunned at how little money is needed to sell out their fellow man). The people that are going to be hit hardest are basically red states. NYC et al are being hit hard right now, but actually have a semblance of proper state infrastructure to eventually deal with it. www.politico.com/states/florida/story/2020/04/03/its-a-sh-sandwich-republicans-rage-as-florida-becomes-a-nightmare-for-trump-1271172^^^ This is the norm and intention, across a lot red states. 9/11 will look like child's play... in like two months. Their need to call this a war is strange too. War on: Iraq, terrorism, drugs, Afghanistan, communism. I'm sure I'm missing more. My hours at work have been reduced, since it is facility security for sports teams. Like 30 hours a week now. Only one place needs 24/7 coverage, and surprisingly this has sparked a lot more break ins. Just pure wastemans aimlessly wondering around. I'll be able to survive though. The thing that bothers me most is all gyms being closed. I was feeling good, on pace to hit PRs, and now poof. Postponed. I have been able to get in quick sessions at work. There are DBs there that go up to 50lb. So I can at least maintain what I have. There are ways to get stronger without lifting. This has done wonders for my mobility. And Lord knows that I need to do more cardio, which I still haven't gotten in the habit of doing. I did go for a run awhile back.... at like 8PM, when it was less than 0 degrees outside. Probably not the best thing to do while still trying to form a habit. I did dig up a jump rope, which seems easier to get into. I'm going to update my resume and start spamming places. Hopefully find something in Kitchener, or get into a police force (I've got a few contacts in that regard). ― Milton Friedman Now, Friedman was a piece of shit, but he was totally right with this. So assuming that you aren't getting totally screwed over right now, rethink things. The impossible is now possible. The odds are that you got more time than you had before. So start doing That Thing You've Been Meaning to Do But Haven't Because You Say There Isn't Enough Time. You know what I mean. Just try and get a new habit. I don't mean in the capitalist sense of productivity, I mean something that you've been truly yearning to do. I've been writing more and I'm taking this weird little course. I'm really introverted and have been damn near socially isolating myself for a decade. This annoys me, rather than truly bothers me. I can't imagine what actual extroverted and outgoing people must be feeling. There are also people in terrible housing situations (abusive parents or SO, going through a divorce before separation, etc) ---- Boris Johnson has been moved to the ICU.Also, sad but not surprising: That's all I got.

Hmmm, freewheel hasn't be on since the 25th... Good point, he was keeping us in the loop so hopefully nothing deteriorated with him or his family. Not much from the rest of the board as to status. Here in NB we went over 100 cases for first time, no deaths. I am not hearing about any medical shortages in our province nor of any overwhelming demands on the system in general. Not sure what to make of that. The symptoms extend from nothing to mild, to serious to life threatening and no way to tell yet who other than seniors (and those with underlying conditions) are at risk. Right now I am seeing nothing to indicate that the Spanish flu epidemic in 1918 which was many levels of magnitude more deadly than the Wuhan virus being surpassed as the world number one pandemic. I'm not complaining mind you. I would be very happy if this fades away due to a medical solution.

Numbers out here in BC are coming down which is good. One plausible reason is (just my hypothesis) there is a relatively large Chinese population here, and lot still has ties back in China and know how serious the situation can be. Everything shut down here before the rest of the country and, judging by the media, we've been more obedient with the recommendations.
I saw on the news that the Ont/Quebec border was closed. Don't envy you guys back east!
I've been talking a lot to my friends that are still in China. Shanghai is turning back to normal. Everyone still wears a mask but shops are reopening, even gyms! In Beijing they are changing the regulations everyday it seems like. Bars are allowed open, but only allowed to have one person per table! My friends who are working with the Olympic programs are quarantined inside the training complex with the athletes. They haven't been allowed outside the gates for 6 weeks now. There's a lot of racism towards foreigners in China, with all the new cases being brought back into the country by foreigners. A lot of places won't serve them, call them foreign trash, even been refused entry to a medical supply shop to buy masks. Crazy world.
