So I've been reading The Dangerous Book for Boys (worth reading for everybody on this board, let me tell you right now) and was wondering if I could find some cool father-son projects for me and BorisDJr to do together. A brief google search led me to this, which is pretty much the most awesome father-son project of all time. Popular Mechanics (with a straight face) insists that this could be done in a "couple of days". Suuuuuuuure.

I browsed for a season before joining. I remember being flabbergasted by the depth of the analytical discussions. I think I ended up joining in 2006/2007.

So the good news for me just keeps on coming. (jealous? ) Just bought a waterfront house a little north of Kincardine so me and the "other half" can stop throwing money away in rent. Plan to retire here, so long-term residence. Can't wait to close on Oct 30!

The salmon and trout are starting to run, and I haven't had a tight line in a couple of weeks. We should raise a glass together at the good news then!

^^^ They say it was a different time back then, maybe in 1965 "days" meant "years"... What? All you have to do is make your own boiler chamber, axles, wheels, brakes, track, pistons, rods, cylinders and solenoids. What kind of sissies are we, anyway?

What are some of RC's preferred Ontario vacation spots to spend a night or two this time of year?

Muskoka's this time of year are SPECTACULAR. Can vouch for that. Went up around this time two years ago. Great time to go. Might have to dress warmer than summer but once the leaves start changing colour its amazing plus I like a bit of chill in the air when I go hiking. Other than Muskoka my recommendation is a tropical beach for a week. (NOT ONTARIO)

What are some of RC's preferred Ontario vacation spots to spend a night or two this time of year? Try calling 800-ONTARIO. They have daily leaf change updates on their recorded system and they will tell you how much of the foliage has changed and how or how not spectacular each region is. I'm not sure how this year is shaping up, but usually the Muskokas (especially around Algonquin) are amazing right now. Blue Mountain area (if you have $$$) or up towards Tobermoray as well are quite nice this time of year. Salmon and trout are beginning to run into rivers, so keep that in mind if you fish. Thornbury/Meaford area are premium spots at this time of year if that's your game.

Nowhere in Ontario??? Unfortunately I had the week off and planned on travelling out of Ontario to PEI but plans had to change last minute...and I'm still off of work for the week. The Muskokas are a solid idea though, a nice cottage there this time of year would be excellent and it's not much of a drive for me either. As far as fishing goes, that's definitely down my alley although I've never gone for trout or salmon before, so I may have to hit you up for a couple of tips.

This year is a stunningly poor example of a Bruce fall, though. I was up there today and surprised at how little colour there was on the trees. It's been a weird year for colour promotion in trees. (I'm going to guess that the wine vintage of 2015 is going to be splendid in Ontario, though. It seems to have been a fantastic year. Good heat, but not too much. Lots of rain, but not too much. That should promote good sugar-ripeness and physiological ripeness of the grapes.)

I'm so appalled by all of Canada's political leadership that I can't even begin to describe it any more.
I find very few appealing points in the Liberals' campaign platform, and Justin Trudeau is a moron and somehow an even bigger demagogue than Harper is (but for some reason gets a pass on it). Snowball fights will happen in hades before I vote for the NDP and Harper should have stepped down a year ago and let Jason Kenny or somebody with actual ideas run the show. I wish I could vote to exile pretty much every federal politician and senior bureaucrat in this country.
The only thing of value that Stephen Harper has done is introduced income splitting, because there is no way on earth any thinking individual can justify why a family with two $50,000 p.a. earners should pay less tax than a family of one $100,000 earner. That's a no-brainer, but it took this long to rectify it. Just...we're doomed as a society.

That's why we're doomed as a society?

I'm saying that any society in which it is acceptable for household A (making a combined $100K) to pay more in tax than household B (making a combined $100K) for no other reason than because the amount of people drawing incomes has lost its damned mind.

Erm, the season is about to start, but I won't be able to make GT as prolifically as I used. If anyone is interested in making GTs over the season/pitching in, let me know.
