I think it was all about Beal. Trading for career losers and expecting them to deliver rarely works out. If I was them I'd do anything to unload Beal and then run it back. Maybe with a new coach though.

Given the new salary cap realities and the number of strong teams that are going to flame out this year, it's looking like a lot of great talent could be up for grabs in the off-season. Will be fascinating to see if the Raptors are able to snag anyone interesting. I imagine Oklahoma and New Orleans will have the best shots at getting the best players (given all the draft assets they have), but at least Toronto has some room to maneuver under the salary cap.

Maxey's clutch 17 seconds in Game 5 of the Sixers v Nicks series saved the Sixers a summer full of questions about whether they lose their stars or not. Just insane, denying the win from the Nicks, making Brunson's amazing game suddenly forgettable.
Just wanted to point out that Masai made at least two attempts to trade for Maxey--and early on when he was still a prospect and not many had really heard of him. In fairness, I bet many GM's did as well but the Sixers were smart enough to know what they had. But at least Masai didn't sleep on him entirely. Maybe he didn't offer enough, who can say.
I've always got rankled by Maxey and his flamboyant attitude, but I bet I would have changed my mind pretty quick if he had a Rap's uniform instead of a Sixer's. If Raps had that level of shooting, maybe they could have been saved the rebuild. Alternate reality stuff - Raps would have had to give something up.
Another note: while Brunson was clearly the star from New York in game 5, Anunoby still had his stamp all over it, with his defense, steals and dunks. Glad to see him getting some appreciation. He seems happier there. (Sniff, sniff)

It's a little sad seeing Kyle Lowry go out like this. He's 38 now so not a surprise, but back to back games started, 38 minutes, 0 points, 0/6 from the floor (0/5 from 3).

I actually thought Lowry played better than I expected. The offensive ability is gone as would be expected for his age, but a lot of the intangibles that made him so effective are still there. His hustle was good, he's physical, he still passes and defends.
He may well retire and probably should, but if we wants to play backup PG, is ok with losing a lot, the Raptors could and have done a lot worse with their free agent signings. The problem would be his ego. He was THE MAN in Toronto and not sure he could accept being just a cog in a rebuild project.

A fun XTwitter thread about our former guy Thad Young.
