So the Raptors off-season has turned into not much of anything. FVV gone, Schroder in, internal growth the future plan. Going forward now, with all trade possibilities exhausted now my HOPE is this was all part of the plan. GTJ had an extension announced immediately after he picked up his option but that never officially happened, seemingly because they didn't want to block trading him if they could (and almost did for Lillard). Siakam was in trade rumors with Atlanta for a while there and presumably part 1 of 2 of why he wasn't extended, the other of course being All-NBA Supermax eligibility if he gets All-NBA this year.
My HOPE plan to save the off season now is to extend GTJ officially which would end up being a pretty reasonable deal and keep an asset at the very least. My hope after that is that Siakam takes an extension now as well, one he has been rumoured he would jump on. That the extension comes now, and not waiting for a potential All-NBA selection which would make his number so much higher the Raptors might actually not want it anymore and would be a whole different can of worms.
Both of these extensions would do 2 things, make them both ineligible to be traded at all during the season this year. The rule is an extension would mean 6 months they can't be traded which is now past the trade deadline. In doing so it would lock this team up to essentially play out the whole year of having a decent team and giving Darko something to play with for at least 1 year.
It only leaves OG up for discussion but that one seems like it is so difficult to figure out, besides that he will not be extending. OG has been constantly in trade rumours the last few years and clearly contending teams will want him. The problem now is 1 year left on his contract his value must be down, but maybe not. Teams like Memphis that went after him last year for reportedly 3 FRPs, that might still be coming since they will be trying to go for it and their picks are very likely to be dogshit every year, so maybe they will still be likely to offer it as it is their only way to add someone like him to this point. Going into next off season sure seems like it would be 50/50 shot to keep him since he wants a bigger role here he doesn't seem likely to get and he would want big money that is probably more than we should give if he doesn't have that role. Moving him also sets the team lineup to be better aligned for positions since right now he might be considered our SG...If they could just move him for someone like Lillard that would clear things up lol. I love OG but sure seems like the odd man out here. I do like now that there are 2 powerhouse in the east that there is no rush to find out how good we are, seems like no one is competing with them and there might be an arms race to get there come the trade deadline.
