Thought we might as well have a spot to talk about the finals.
Watching Game 1 right now and I am in love with this Golden State team, they are so entertaining in how they play and man is that arena loud. Crazy. Couldn't want them to win more over this coward Cavs team. I wish our offense could look anything at all like this, even a poor mans version of it would be a joy to watch.

I still haven't seen anything in this NBA postseason remotely as good as the Spur-Clippers series in the first round.

I love the way the warriors are playing, but this whole season is leaving me with a bitter taste. People talk about their historic season, conveniently ignoring the fact that the two best western teams in the past few years have been plagued with injuries all season. Hell, the crapfest that are the Huston Rockets was in second place.
And the injury plagued playoffs, and now these finals against the Cavaliers without Kyrie and that other guy. And when the Warriors win it, all anyone will remember is their record.

If Bron manages to drag this decimated squad to the title, it might be the most incredible achievement in recent championship history.
That said, don't think it happens.

LeBron winning a championship with this bunch will definitely raise his standing in the list of all-time greats. Wade and Bosh were one thing, but these scrubs? Yikes.

As far as I'm concerned he's already raised his standing.

As far as I'm concerned he's already raised his standing. He has for sure, but winning a championship without Kyrie or Kevin would remove the asterisks from the past two championships with me. I am curious about this extra motivation he brought up. The media is probably making a bigger deal about it than it needs to be but I maintain the theory that if Lebron wins a title then he's going to retire early.

Ok, I'm gonna throw it out their because of the way he has put this depleted Cavs team on his shoulders and carried them through these playoffs... If lebron wins a championship this year, can he be considered the greatest player of all time? A popular argument suggesting Jordan will still hold that title is that he has gone 6 for 6 in finals appearances while lebron, if he wins a championship this year, will be 3 for 6. I don't really like to use championships as a measuring stick for individual players. It is called a TEAM sport for a reason and both cavalier teams that lebron has gone to the finals with have been significantly weaker than any of the Bulls teams Jordan had. The reason I still consider Michael to be the best is because of his ability to hit the clutch, game winning shot time after time. Kobe Bryant is the only other player I've seen that has that big shot make-ability but if James can add that to his resume then I think he does become the all time great. His defence is comparable to Jordan's, he's a better rebounder, and he makes his team mates better at a level that Michael never really did. Many believe that Michael Jordan will always be the the best to ever play but if there ever was player that could challenge him for that spot, it's lebron James.

I won't give him best of all time based on this series, but I will give him most deserved head wound of all time for that flop into the camera man.

James and Jordan are different players playing in different eras, so it's difficult to compare. That said, if James can lead this crap team to a championship, he's got to be in the conversation for being THE greatest player ever. Jordan was amazing, but could he have lead a Bulls team to a championship without Pippen? Tough to say.

Ok, I won't take anything away from Iguodala - he had a really good series. But that Bill Russell trophy should have without question gone to LeBron.
Do I like Iggy more than LeBron? Yes. But you cannot take away from the fact that LeBron has evolved as a thinker of the game and as a leader and as a man to be true greatness. He didn't pout when he lost, he congratulated the victor, he hasn't blamed anybody for losing. He's showing human qualities that are admirable beyond being a 6'8" 280 lbs athletic monster. There's still something about him that rubs me the wrong way, but I gladly recognize the change and development in him over the past 24 months in particular.
Good for him. I now can honestly say that I hope he wins one in Cleveland, mostly because I'm convinced the Raptors are now not a threat to do so themselves (barring some miracle offseason).

I don't envy the MVP voters this time around. I think a strong case could have been made for LeBron, Iggy and even Curry.
LeBron - He was outstanding. Even though his efficiency dropped off you kind of understand given the task he was undertaking - he wasn't so much the MVP on the team, he kinda was the team. I guess you gotta factor in that the particular team in question lost, but man! He was the best player in the series.
Iguodala - To many it felt like his insertion into the starting line-up turned Golden States fortunes around. His defence on LeBron was as best as could be hoped for (unless you have Kawhi Leonard available). Without Iggy its conceivable Golden State could have lost. I was surprised when Andre Iguodala won, but I don't hate it.
Curry - Best player on the winning team. Even if he wasn't his usual unearthly self at times in this series, if he's not there, you know Golden State doesn't win this.
Yikes!

LeBron was the best player in the entire series without a doubt. That doesn't mean he deserves the MVP of the finals. MVP of the finals go to the winning team, not the best player, but the most valuable player of the winning team. There would be tons of cases of best players on losing teams if that were the case. LeBron would have been one every time he lost in the finals because he has been the best player in the league for like 8 years.
Curry is the best player on the team, and there could be a strong case for him for sure, he IS the Warriors offense. He starts everything going. Like us 2 years ago trying to handle Joe Johnson, all you need to do is give him the ball and the immediate double that comes leaves the other team scrambling. I liked Iggy winning the award though, him taking a step back to fit with the team the best way possible and then stepping up large in the Finals was a nice twist to winning it. I was talking about him winning it after game 5 as a possibility because he has a very large role on the team to help them win on offense and defense. Curry is obviously the best of these 2, but Iggy had a big role on this team and did what he needed to (when he wasn't on the FT line).
Really entertaining series though. I wish Kyrie could have played as well, that would have made it even better.

I should note that there's actually precedent for the MVP to be awarded to a player on a losing team:
In 1969, Jerry West (Lakers) won the Bill Russel Award (i.e. MVP). His team lost.
That doesn't necessarily mean it's a good thing and this sole occurrence in 1969 should be followed or ever repeated. But it's been argued by some that LeBron's performance was similar in this series.
Tangent Alert: I just hope next season has less injuries all around so we can watch all the teams and players closer to their full strength. I echo your comments regarding Kyrie Irving.

Everything lined up for the Dubs this season. I thought that if they didn't win this season, they were never gonna do it.

I don't see how that justifies anything. I know that he is a talented player (think of how great he would be if he didn't have all those sportswriters lips stuck to his ass) but I wouldn't want him on a team, he's just too full of himself to make a team work. He doesn't seem to carry through the playoffs. To me he is the epitome of all that is wrong with modern sport, he should be a sprinter or something where he doesn't have others around him.He should take up darts so I wouldn't have to see him.

... The guy literally carried the Cavs to the finals and made the Warriors sweat with a team full of jabroni's. If that doesn't scream "carrying a team" I don't know what does.
I have no doubt in my mind, after watching the Cavs run this year, that Lebron is the reason Miami won their championships. If it wasn't obvious before, it should be now.

Lebron shot 28% outside of 5 feet. It was apparent that GS knew Lebron wasn't going to hit any of his shots, and they totally packed the paint whenever he had the ball.
It was a great performance considering the rest of the Cavs hardly showed up, but that huge boost in usage really torpedoed his efficiency.
