I was a Leaf fan before a Raptors fan. Practically the day I was born I became a Leaf fan.
And it's a glorious time to be one right now! After years of awfulness, we finally get to witness a truly competitive team. Matthews, Tavares, Rielly, Marner, what a group of guys.
It's truly a wonderful time to be a Toronto sports fan.... finally!

I miss the Mogilny-Sundin-Roberts line personally.

So! Since we all know there's nothing going on in the basketball world right now, certainly nothing that would cause someone to create a new thread... No sir!
How about those Leafs? I vaguely understand there's talk of a coaching change?
And weren't some of you big into Bitcoin last summer? How'd that settle ultimately? I can never remember if it's up or down.
And, uh, I don't know. Whose your favourite Muppet of all time? Gotta be Fonzy, right?

Every time I think about getting back into hockey, maybe even following the Leafs, they get destroyed by Boston. Actually, all the Canadian teams seem to underperform in the playoffs. It's all very deflating.

That was pretty awful. I'm looking hard at Keefe after that series. Did his best Casey impression.

You come to appreciate just how special the Raps run was and how special the leadership group is.
You see a bunch of entitled frat boys on the Leafs. You see winners with a winning mentality on the Raps.

Would this be the wrong time/place to note I grew up in southern Ontario but a Canadiens fan?
(To be fair, it was the 70s, a pretty awesome era for that team …)

Would this be the wrong time/place to note I grew up in southern Ontario but a Canadiens fan? (To be fair, it was the 70s, a pretty awesome era for that team …) Our group here on the board is pretty tolerant. I'm from the Maritimes and I grew up a Leafs fan. I was in high school when the Leafs won it all and saw Bobby Baun return on a broken leg to score the winning goal in overtime. Hockey lost me with all of the expansion and Americanization of the game. What I mean by that is that for a time NHL and WWF weren't that different. It was kind of fun to watch the Broad street Bullies but hockey seemed incidental to whom would get beaten up next. Then we took those stars and played the Russians and we were shocked. Russia played hockey. Real Canadian style hockey. Our guys just couldn't get them to drop the gloves and we couldn't catch them to drive them through the boards. It was shocking and illuminating. I did watch the Gretzky years until he went to LA and Peter Puck became notorious as a traitor to his country. For years no Canadian team could make it into the playoffs and I lost interest.
I was only too happy to watch a Canadian NBA team and gave up on following hockey except for the odd check in. Now I hardly follow it all.

This is a bit of a "mature" board. When I became a leaf fan Gordie Howe was still suiting up and Dr J was the best player in the NBA. NBA games weren't often on TV. I sometimes wondered if me and my brother were the only basketball fans in Ontario.

I sometimes wondered if me and my brother were the only basketball fans in Ontario. The weird thing about basketball in Ontario in the 1980s, imho, is how popular it was for playing, even though I don’t remember ever seeing the NBA on TV. We played hoops in the gym all year round, any time we got the chance, but I knew nothing about the pro game. We’d flick hockey cards and baseball cards, but I don’t recall anyone collecting NBA cards. The Bird-DrJ video game was crazy popular though. Kind of like soccer was back then, I guess. We played, but never watched. Although CFMT sometimes played games from Serie A.

It's uncanny how closely the Leafs situation mirrors the Raptors prior to winning their championship. The Leafs have a slow, uncreative thinker in Keefe as a coach (Casey). Their leadership and high paid player Tavares is a career loser. Never winning anything. Similar to Derozan. It's no real disrespect to their ability, it's just that you won't ever win in the playoffs with a slow coach and players with a long history of losing.
The Raptors had a visionary GM who made some really hard decisions that resulted in a championship. I can't say I saw it coming. I'm no visionary. But having lived it once it seems fairly obvious that the Leafs are in a similar position. Having lost too many playoff series that could have been won. However I don't believe Dubas is a visionary. I think he is a tinkerer a d the wrong guy.
Need to go in order: Tavares Keefe Muzzin Kerfoot Dubas (if he won't get rid of the above)

Can't disagree there.
Unfortunately, JT is nearly impossible to move. Think you're stuck there.
They'll probably trade Nylander, Mrazek and Holl and get a few extra adds and that'll be that. We'll see if Jack comes back as the goalie, he might have priced himself out of Toronto.
I'm so numb to these losses now.
