Val not taking open jumpers is maddening. Actually, if he took those and improves his conditioning to a non-atrocious state I think that he could make The Leap next season. At least on offense.

Demar is playing loose, his handle may not be tight but he has great control.

Ross's offense has been coming alive at the right time. It could be that Demar is attracting so much attention that he is just left way to open though.

Lowry has found his stroke. That is good news. Wouldn't mind seeing Chicago win tonight though.

Well, it's been an underwhelming second half of the season. But at least we once again set a new franchise wins record. Still the only franchise never to win 50 games in a season, though.

I'd rather face the Bucks than Wiz. Sure it might be nice to beat the wiz after all that trash talk, but the easier matchup is obviously Milwaukee

And Bulls win. Bring on the Wizards.
I think the Wizards are better than the Bucks, but there's no way I wanted us to get schooled by Jason Kidd for a second year in a row. Because you know he would outcoach Casey something horrible.
At least the Wiz have imploded just as badly as we have. Seems like a fair fight.

So you can beat a team lead by Carter-Williams and Middleton, who cares. Atleast playing the Wizards gives us a better gauge to see where we stand in the big picture.

Might be the saddest series ever. At least we have a huge coaching advantage for once.

Crazy to think where this team could have been if they didn't play sub .500 ball for half a season...

Well lots to think about for playoffs, but I am happy to face Pierce who is all talk and no walk. Guys like him and Garnet give winners a bad name. Raptors should beat these guys but after the poor second half it's gonna be anybody's game, I hope they go 4 straight. Anyone know how the frame breaks down? Since the Raps are 4 vs 8 I assume they play first place winner? So likely Hawks then Cavs if they break through? Also great job Pseudo on the game summaries for pre-game. Nice to have someone set the table. Playoffs should be much easier!!!

Pretty ideal playoff route. The game is basically to avoid Cleveland as long as possible and hope somebody else gets lucky and takes them out.
As bad as the Raptors have been in the second half of the season, the Wiz have been almost as bad. I consider it a pretty even matchup.
I perceive being fourth as a big advantage. If the Raps can make it to the second round, I think they have an opportunity to upset the Hawks.
If we were third, we'd be looking to hopefully not get embarrassed against the Bucks, and then get obliterated by the Cavs. This is better.

Exactly right Kapono, and Chicago just may be able to do it. If they can't they sure as hell will make it a battle and beat them up.
We're one of the few teams this year to beat the Hawks a couple times, much better chance against them than the Cavs. Since they have been changed around they matchup rather well against us and I don't like our chances at all against them.

We're more or less on the same level as the Wizards, and that means nothing because a lot of our bench unit's contracts run out, so our team next year will look drastically different. I just want to see the second round and don't have enough faith in Casey to think he can do it against a squad that is probably equally talented.

I am getting way ahead of myself, but if the Raps beat the Wiz, I understand it's on to the winner of the Hawks vs Nets (i.e. the Hawks, I presume).
Or at least so says this web article.
And I would definitely echo your comment that Pseudo's game summaries are terrific (which I have enjoyed as a lurker).
Both nervous and excited for the playoffs... C'mon team!

No we don't, that's why Masai will decide what to do during the offseason based on what happens in the playoffs. Getting to the second round is nice, but practically meaningless if our opponent is Milwaukee. BTW, I share Kapono's point of view regarding the second round.

You really believe Masai is going to construct our roster based on what happens in the playoffs? So we're gonna ignore 82 games against the entire NBA season and build our team based on its ability to matchup against 1 maybe 2 teams? Talk about small sample size. Our team isn't going to play a drastically different game from the way they played in the regular season. We know their strengths and their weaknesses and virtually nothing that happens this playoff series should be a surprise save the outcome. We're gonna take a lot of perimeter shots. We're gonna play stretches of good defense and a lot more stretches of bad defense. More importantly we're gonna give up a shit ton of boards. There is nothing new under the raptors sun.

Oh, so Masai is making stuff up for no good reason? Now you're just grasping at straws. Look, quality always trumps quantity, to get 49 wins in a regular season (while playing in the weakest division in the NBA) only to flop in the playoffs against a mediocre team is absolutely significant. Are you honestly telling me that we will learn nothing about this team if they get swept in the first round? Or if they make it to the EC finals? You don't think it matters whether or not Lou Williams plays out of his mind and carries us out of the first round or if he shoots us out of games? Or if Terrence Ross continues his post season struggles from behind the arc? These are all big picture questions, and relying solely on our regular season performance for an answer while "ignoring" the postseason performance (from each player individually to the coaching staff) is short sighted imho.

Is Masai making big statements in an effort to drum up fan interest before a playoff series? You bet your ass he is. You mention we play in the weakest division of basketball, while that's true its not like all 82 were played against teams in the Atlantic. Let's say 4 games per team and 4 teams in the division. That means 16/82 games or just under 20% of our games are useless. I'd still maintain that the remaining 66 games are much more valuable than the 4-7 games we will play against Washington. All you will gain from this series is how well you match up with Washington. I guarantee you will learn next to nothing about this team that you didn't know about them before. If Lou scores 50 ppg against Washington over a 4 game series does that make him a max player capable of doing that over a season? Or does that mean he had a hot streak/matched up well against the wizards?

Is Masai making big statements in an effort to drum up fan interest before a playoff series? You bet your ass he is. I'm sure Masai is capable of doing that without having to lie to the entire fanbase (e.g. response to Paul Pierce). They're both important, but if a good regular season team consistently chokes in the playoffs, then big changes are needed. You guarantee!? How does that work exactly? Last year I learned that Ross cracked under pressure while both DeRozan and Lowry rose to the occasion. I also learned that coach Casey made an elementary mistake on the last play call in game 7, which if it happens again, should probably get him fired. I also learned that not having a legit defensive SF off the bench can cost us a playoff series (which is probably why Masai went and got JJ in the offseason). Why are those my only two options? Lou's career ORtg drops from 110 in the regular season to 96 in the playoffs... if that happens again during this playoff run, I say let him walk this summer. No need to give a large pay raise for the NBA's 6th man of the year (I'm calling it early) if he can't contribute in the playoffs. Wouldn't you agree? Isn't that an example of something you can learn from the playoffs?

Wow who could have figured he would remain inconsistent (in a small sample, keeping in mind he had a decent showing in game 7). Casey makes questionable calls? Wow no one knew that going into the playoffs, oh wait everyone has been saying that for 3 years. LMAO You learned that having a strong defensive player is a good thing? That you should have known before the regular season started. Also you realize the pace of the game slows down in the playoffs right? I haven't looked at the numbers but it would be safe to assume that most players suffer a decent drop in ORtg due to quality of opponent and drop of pace. Again I don't need to watch the playoffs to make an educated guess and say that Lou will most assuredly not maintain that 110 rating.
