Well, that didn't take long. Markquis Nowell waived today. I guess we aren't going to find the next Muggsy Bogues. Good luck to him.
Raps need to take a look at how they are assessing players coming out in recent years. I mean since Vanvleet, the guys they are trying out have not been good. Now I don't claim to be any sort of great talent evaluator, but it didn't take me but a single viewing to not like Harper Jr, (overweight, slow, not athletic), David Johnson, (not athletic, low motor), Nowell, (undersized, not quick enough).
Some are draft choices and some just signees but take a look at the murderers row of late drafts. Missing like this over several years is what empties out the bottom half of your roster.
2019 2 59 Dewan Hernandez 2020 1 29 Malachi Flynn 2020 2 59 Jalen Harris 2021 2 46 Dalano Banton 2021 2 47 David Johnson 2022 2 33 Christian Koloko
Maybe Masai is washed as a scout, however my bet is that as the big boss he just doesn't do as much hard scouting any more. The problem is that whoever is doing it, isn't very good at it.

On one hand, how many late 2nd rounders become serviceable NBA players? I haven't looked at the latest draft results but I suspect it's maybe 2 players per in that 45-60 range?

Its not just serviceable, its having guys in the bottom half of your roster that feel some loyalty and desire to grow and develop as Raptors. Those players are better to have than 10 dayers/retreads. You see retreads are in most cases mercenaries. There for one more contract. 10 dayers have been through the grind, seen a lot of failure and sometimes are jaded.
The only real reclamation project we've had is Boucher and being Canadian might be a contributing factor.
Anyway, I'm not against signing older free agents or guys from the Gleague. Id just like to see our draft picks and college free agents to not be such obvious bombs. Whoever is doing our college scouting should be updating his resume.
