Cavs would obviously call us about Anunoby or even Siakam, however they don't really have anything that we would want. They traded it all to get Mitchell. I cant see them dealing Mobley or Garland, so what else is there?

Loving these rumors of Jason Brown being unhappy. If true, and if Boston gets bounced in the second round, I wonder if Brown might be available. I think he'd be pretty awesome on the Raptors, if we didn't have to give up too much. Maybe OG and Boucher and a couple of picks? (Which seems to work financially). OG and a Trent sign-and-trade for Brown and some Boston garbage?
That would give us: FVV Brown Scottie Pascal Poeltl

Anyone interested in a Jordan Poole reclamation project? His fit is generally terrible on that team since he's a not as good duplicate of Curry that they can't use the same way. There was talked of them looking at Kuminga for OG, I think with how much Poole cost he's their only way to trade. OG for Poole and Kuminga seems pretty good to me for a rebuilding Raptors, and both of those guys are getting very little time in the playoffs where OG would play a ton.

Weird fact: Kuminga shot better from 3 last year (0.370) than Poole has ever shot in any season. I'm pretty sure the Raptors can get more for OG than those two, though. Depends how much of a top-to-bottom tear-down Ujiri ends up doing.

I don't think we really want Ayton now that Poeltl has been practically locked in. However, there is potential to be part of three way with Vanvleet and Ayton. Now we just need to find out what Ayton is worth to another team. It cant be a PG though because if the Suns can get a PG better than Vanvleet, the Suns wouldn't need us.
What are the Suns going to do with Paul though? He is under contract and when he plays he is better than VV right now. Hell, I might deal VV for Paul if there was someone more in it.

Other trade I've been thinking about is if the Rockets are really trying to get Harden back and make a team, they would have plenty of assets we would want. The target for them would be Siakam. For us guys like Green, this years pick if it isn't Wemby, since no one is trading that, maybe Jabari, future Nets picks. There's a lot to go for from them.

So the draft worked out pretty well for this thread, I've been targeting Portland all along and now they sit at 3, with what currently sounds like Scoot the likely leftover of the top 3. Pascal for Scoot and Simons and maybe they can swing Sharpe too but I doubt it. Win win for both teams. Our lineup of Scoot, Simons, OG, Scottie and Poeltl is a nicely balanced lineup.
I could see the thought process of not wanting to have the SG be so small and not able to defend so maybe they go for Sharpe there plus salary matching. Portland could prefer that anyways since Simons is more proven and they would rather retain current talent with this plan. It also gives them life after Dame. For me it all comes down to Scoot, a PG who can create offense is something this team desperately needed last year.

According to the trade machine, the following trades work under the cap: • Simons+Nurkic+pick = Pascal+pick • Simons+Nurkic+Sharpe+pick = Pascal+Precious+pick • Nurkic+Sharpe+pick = OG+pick
• Nurkic+Sharpe+pick = OG+Precious+pick
Doesn't have to be Precious from the Raptors ... was just thinking of who helps makes salaries match that Portland might be interested in. All just pie-in-the-sky, of course. But getting Scoot would be a huge for us.

Scully, don't say such things. That makes me way too happy and optimistic if it can happen.. I'm sorry but I legit think this is at least getting talked about between both squads. As long as Portland sticks to the plan previously mentioned to use the pick up improve the roster today there isn't many available players better than Siakam for that team. I would be extremely happy if that results in Scoot for us.

More speculation time. I don't think this will happen but if Harden does go to Houston there's the obvious part of trading with Houston, but what about trading with Philly who is trying to rebuild around Embiid and not lose him too. We're rebuilding, so taking on Harris that allows them to retool but also taking Maxey for Siakam. Then throw in pick swaps for 2026 and 2028 then get unprotected 2029. Maxey is very nice for them and they might just plan to build around him in place of Harden.

Saw another article about Siakam a possibility for Portland for 3rd pick and googled to see them also talk about their biggest hole at C... Previously I've been wondering about how funny it would be to bring back Jak only to trade away his running mate Siakam... But what if we didn't.
I'm sure there are rules about sign and trades,I believe they can't be included with other players so this may need to be broken down into separate deals, but a package around Siakam and Poeltl followed by us getting both their picks this year 3 and 23 I believe, Simons, Nurk, possibly Sharpe as well and then enough draft capital behind it to make it work, preferably anything 4 years out and further.
Portland would take a huge bump in win now mode getting 2 very capable players to fill in their biggest drawbacks. Lillard, Thybulle, Grant, Siakam, Poeltl is a pretty solid lineup that actually brings really good defense for once to the Blazers.
Raptors play is basically entirely around getting Scoot because I'm absolutely all in that this guy is going to be great. after that it's Simons who can really score, Sharpe for upside and CanCon and future draft picks when Portland is very likely to bottom out while offering Dame way more than he'll be worth and no hope of fixing that. Scoot, Simons, OG, Scottie, Precious. I know this unsolved our C spot recently solved but oh well, this isn't a complete team yet and if this lineup is working out they can turn some of the extra assets into a C. FVV and GTJ could be retained or moved for more assets to help fill those voids.

That's really interesting... but I have a hard time seeing how Portland could match the salaries for Pascal and Poeltl combined.
But Scoot and Sharpe would be amazing. And Simons would be okay, too, at least temporarily.

Way too many variables in play to make speculating very useful at this point … but some kind of sign-and-trade of FVV and Chris Paul might be fun. Help make all our guys more valuable while being a mentor to Danton and Barton or whatever young point guards we have.
EDIT: Just to be clear, I'm not expecting prime Chris Paul to come, play 40 minutes a night and save our franchise. But if there was some sort of way to get him that might save us some money and give us some sort of asset for FVV, that would be great. Let him play 24 minutes a night and be a mentor and culture guy.
But I know we're unlikely to get him, so it doesn't much matter...

If we move up for Scoot that's potentially a good move, but if we move up for Brandon Miller it's hard to get excited about adding another identical swingman without addressing an area of need. Then again I would've gave the same reasoning for drafting Jalen Suggs over Scottie before that draft, and it's pretty clear Raptors got it right drafting Barnes over Suggs even though it's created a logjam for us
Also, I had to laugh: I know NBAdraft.net isn't basing their current mock draft on team needs, but it was too on brand that they have us drafting Bilal Coulibaly, a 6'7" international SF they compare to Anunoby

This is my biggest worry for this draft trade potential. Masai seems to be stuck on taking advantage of the desperate and winning trades. This is usually a great way to do things but it can backfire, ie they wanted to trade in to the draft to get Giannis but didn't pay enough.
Sometimes, take the tie, everyone wins, and go on your way. Siakam was drafted 27th, trading him for the 3rd pick and a proven young scorer with room to grow is a win, but Portland can't over pay due to desperation (and they are desperate) because they aren't one move away, they will need more than that and don't have the assets. Going for more means getting nothing. Just take Simons and Scoot and call it a day. It's a trade you could end up massively winning anyways with Scoot. If we're rebuilding then maybe include Nurk so you can take some of their late available picks, my target is Dames final year of his contract, no way they will be good then with the new CBA rules.
So Siakam for Simons, 3rd pick (if Scoot is available or whoever else they might like) and Nurk and 2027 unprotected.

Listening to Bill Simmons and Russilo talk about made up trades, they just did Siakam for 2 and Hayward. Seems a little like honestly, it's effectively Siakam for Scoot. They both loved it, I feel less good about that, give me something else, future protected first.

so let's talk about it then. Why do you like it more than me? Sorry, I got called away before completing my thoughts. Why? • I'm not that high on Siakam. The last two years he's maxed out his productivity at a 20.3 PER. Mediocre 3-point shooting. He's getting older. • He's holding Scottie back from becoming who Scottie could/should be. • He's an excellent No. 2, but not so great as a No. 1. So trading him gets you Scoot, gives Scottie a better chance to step up, gives you a major reset for the team. And Haywood ... if he stays healthy, it's even better. A good shooter (usually). Good veteran presence for a young team. Most of those arguments might also apply to OG, to one degree or another. His timeline fits a rebuild better, but he gets hurt more ... But we don't need all three of OG, Siakam and Scottie, so losing one just makes sense. But I have no real preference between this Hornets trade and the previously floated Portland trade. I'm just ready to try something new.

I agree entirely that Siakam almost needs to go, I'm a big fan of him but at this point this team needs to move on and take short term pain for long term gain.
I am also heavily in on turning Siakam into Scoot. I just also think it should be worth more than this. Hayward isn't an asset, although he is at least an expiring contract now.

You know, I’d be a lot more sympathetic to the whines that Ujiri and our FO are difficult to deal with if all the deals getting reported for OG weren’t such dogshit. Memphis for three picks? Great, three lousy picks. Thanks. Want to include Bane? No? Then fuck off. Same with Sacramento, Atlanta, etc.
I don’t think I’ve heard any suggestions remotely worthwhile, aside from the general Portland and Charlotte buzz. And who knows how serious that is? They both have lots of choices too.
It’s Ujiri’s job to build the best possible team. Not to make other GMs happy. Not to make a bunch of 2nd-rate reporters happy. Good for him for sticking up for his team and his players
48 hours until we get some clarity (most likely).

Ya the Sacramento one they talked multiple times how they are pursuing him aggressively but that they won't include their only player of value they can trade. Ok, thanks for the call, bye now.

Speculation time. There's word of Toronto contacting Houston as well. This is a 3 player draft right. 2022 was a 4 poster draft and we picked the other guy. What if the FO are looking at others again, she mainly I'm thinking Amen Thompson. I can't remember the exact quote but it was said in some of the Darko interviews that it sounds like team everyone is tall is not going away... Well Amen is a 6'7 PG with a 7' wingspan. Sure seems like someone they would have interest in as well and take cheaper if they can get it since this is a 3 person draft

The No. 4 pick for minimal assets. Or the No. 4 pick plus some of those other juicy picks Houston owns for OG? Some of those Nets' picks look quite enticing...
I can never remember if it's Amen or Ausar who's supposed to have more upside...
|
|
|
Post by scully19 on Jun 19, 2023 21:33:08 GMT -5
Amen is the upside guy with more lead guard skills.
And yes I was thinking about a lesser pay like that.
... I'm quite positive I'm going to be so disappointed in this draft after we do nothing that it'll really bum me out for the early year and I'll need to be won back to care again.
